Building Surveying

Studies of Building Surveying was established in 1994 under the Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying. The centre of studies has since produced more than 500 Diploma graduates and over 600 graduates at Degree level. The degree course was previously known as Advanced Diploma in Building Surveying. Currently the 3 1/2 years Bachelor of Building Surveying (Hons) course is conducted on full-time basis at Shah Alam and and Seri Iskandar campuses. The programme for part-time mode was introduced in July 2006 at Shah Alam campus only. The 3 year full-time Diploma programme is conducted at the Seri Iskandar campus with a student enrolment of 600.

The courses are designed to provide rigorous training to students with professional recognition in the specific field of Building Surveying. Professional Building Surveyors will have to take the challenge in providing care and maintenance for the country's existing stock of buildings and structures. The professional Building Surveyor will play the major role as consultant in planning for maintenance of public and privately owned buildings to optimise their uses, safety and value thus, safeguarding the interest of the owners and the public.

The holistic approach of the curriculum would enable graduates to achieve personal development and career paths which ultimately aim at achieving professional recognition to practice as Professional Building Surveyor. The course is structured to cover broad areas of study in Building Control, Building Pathology, Maintenance Management, Professional Practice, Building By law, Construction Technology, Science of Materials, Building Economics, Building Services, Appreciation of Design, and Academic Research. The syllabus was developed to provide a broad yet rigorous grounding in the principles and concepts of building surveying and concurrently, developing the students’ ability to be analytical, creative and innovative in solving related problems.
